Local Attractions

San Pedro Trolley and Cruise

San Pedro has a lot to offer for nature, art, and history lovers, or those wanting to experience a more laid back seaside culture. If you can, take the opportunity to explore the area before or after the RG on your own. There will be a few excursions, listed under Events offered through the RG as well. The Pacific Ocean is literally at your doorstep with sailboats docking at the marina. Views of glowing ocean sunsets and harbor lights can be enjoyed without leaving the outdoor heated patio at the Double Tree. Wander out with fellow Mensans on the Pub Crawl. Visit the USS Iowa, with fellow RG attendees. The 1936 trans-Atlantic ocean liner, World War 2 troop ship, the Queen Mary, is about 20 minutes by car. Take a cruise ship excursion (free transportation to or from the Double Tree), or sail to Catalina. If you would love a chance to see whales, you are in luck! The grey whale migration is from January to March. Dolphins and grey whales are frequently seen from parts of the San Pedro coast and there are whale watch trips available nearby. Visiting the small, research oriented Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, within walking distance, will introduce the local grunion spawning habits and provide quiet hands-on exploration for kids. The San Pedro trolley will transport you along the waterfront at no cost. The trolley will add a special stop to its Sunday afternoon route at the Double Tree for StaRGazers, eg. RG attendees.
